Spring festival in Duderstadt: finally buzz and more action

Duderstadt. The music echoes loudly through the speakers and a voice calls out, “Here we go again.” Two midfielders are on the verge of the action and small, cute vehicles whistle away. The collisions are deliberate with bumper cars – one of several runs at the Duderstadt Spring Festival.

For four days – from Friday to Monday – the Spring Festival finally returns to Schützenplatz. Finally – not only the showmen gathered around his children’s carousel by the organizer Volker Bodem, but also the guests who were looking for madness and action on Saturday afternoon in fine weather, or wanted to give their children something.

Some toddlers experience something like this for the first time in their lives: a ball pool, a merry-go-round or sweet treats such as cotton candy. “It’s great for the kids to see it happening again,” says Ralf Howaldt, who has just tried his luck throwing arrows with his wife Iris and the kids Tom (4) and Stella (almost 2). In any case, the nice woman behind the counter handed Junior a paper plane as a consolation prize. The visit to the fair was a premiere for both children – Stella had not yet been born before the break in Corona, and her four-year-old brother was still too young. “Tom thought the ball pool was great,” Dad relates as the toddler makes his rounds on the merry-go-round.

When throwing their darts, all four of them aim at the colored balloons. Iris Howaldt would dream of a roller coaster ride that the whole family could take. But whatever, the most important thing is, there will be a spring festival again. Isabell Wiedemann from Duderstadt, whose son Joris goes to kindergarten with Tom, says the same thing. It’s also practical that the showmen’s attractions are on the Schützenplatz in Duderstadt, Wiedemann says. “Then you don’t have to put the kids in the car and go somewhere.”

The 19-year-old from Worbis says: “I definitely missed the hype during the Corona period.” Whenever the showmen line up their rides and stand in the area, they try to go there. He prefers to go to the stands where he can win something, says the 19-year-old, proudly displaying his initial catch from the Duderstadt Spring Festival: two colorful stuffed animals and a screwdriver. She got the latter for hits at the shooting range.

Budget for the buzz feeling

A woman from Worbis reveals that she has allocated a financial budget to visit the Spring Rite – and such events in general. “But most of all, I’m over it,” she admits, and laughs. But she is ready to spend money on the buzz feeling. The showmen around Volker Bodem should be pleased with Heuschkel’s attitude. As the industry had a hard time during the Corona period, the 19-year-old knows too.

She is not a fan of this hype herself, says Heike Schmalstieg from Breitenberg. But on Saturday she came with her family and friends to Schützenplatz. “It’s nice to be able to do something again after the Corona period,” she says cheerfully. “And the weather plays too.” Not only is the sun shining from the blue sky, Schmalstieg’s daughter Greta also beams. A seven-year-old, pulling the strings, grabbed a set of jewelry for the children.

In addition, Greta was allowed to jump on a trampoline, ride a carousel and ride with her mother in a line of cars. The Breitenberg woman had so much fun she got in the bumper a second time – including a few collisions with other cars and lots of fun.
