At HfWU in Nürtingen, the artist couple Judy Bailey and Patrick Depuhl created a musical reading evening about their own daily experiences between racism, homeland and hope.
NUERTINGEN. Combining concert, narration and discussion, artists Judy Bailey and Patrick Depuhl presented their “daily experiences between racism, homeland and hope” in an evening of general studies at the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Applied Sciences (HfWU) in Nürtingen in front. “If we were black and white our children would be gray. But they are colorful and full of color, Judy Bailey said, introducing the evening. Then followed the appropriate song and the motto of the evening “Life is not black and white”. Two artists, Judy Bailey and Patrick Depuhl, wondered about the story behind it, their story. About slavery in Bailey’s family of origin, which few survived. About racism that survived in the Depuhl family and the history of Germany. A pair of independent artists – she studied psychology and he studied communication science – have been living and working together for over 25 years. The moderator of the evening was prof. Johannes Junker, dean of the Department of Theater Therapy at HfWU, and students from the university’s awareness-raising group helped organize the event.
