The Berlin Senate is planning a new infection protection ordinance and, according to rbb, wants to go beyond the latest federal commission’s decision. Something would change, especially in the event of important events such as concerts or Bundesliga matches.

According to rbb, the Berlin Senate wants to decide next Tuesday to lift the upper limit for major events. Instead, there should be a relative limit of 60 percent capacity in the future. This change is planned in the new version of the regulation on protection against infections, which the health administration informed rbb about on request.

The plan goes beyond MPK’s decision

The Senate would therefore go beyond what federal and state governments agreed on February 16 at the prime ministerial conference. Here, the heads of governments agreed that with a maximum occupancy of 60 percent. the number of people should not exceed 6,000.

However, the Senate has yet to decide on this change at its meeting next Tuesday for the new rule to apply and possibly enter into force from Friday, March 4, 2022.

More than 10,000 spectators at the Mercedes-Benz Arena would be possible

This means that some scheduled concerts may take place in the coming weeks. For example, in March, the rock band Genesis is scheduled to perform at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, there will also be a concert with film music from “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and a performance by the magicians of the Ehrlich brothers. According to the health administration, 10,200 spectators would be allowed into the arena at Ostbahnhof under the new regulations.

Hertha BSC was also able to benefit directly from the planned regulation: on Saturday, March 5, the Bundesliga match with Eintracht Frankfurt is to take place at the Olympic Stadium. According to the regulation, around 44,000 viewers would then be admitted.

So far, there is an upper limit of 2,000 people in closed rooms

Until now, in the case of events in closed rooms – be it in the field of culture, leisure or not only – up to 2,000 people can be present at the same time with mechanical ventilation. The conditions of 2G + and the requirement for an FFP2 mask, also in the seat, are also mandatory. If there are between 2,000 and 4,000 people present, a maximum of 30 percent of the appropriate event location can be used.
