Bayreuth scientist becomes federal constitutional judge

JUNE 2, 2022 ON THE FEDERAL DAY PROF. HEINRICH AMADEUS WOLFF, HEAD OF THE CHAIR OF PUBLIC LAW VII, UNIVERSITY OF BAYREUTH, AS THE FOLLOWING OF PROF. DR. ANDREAS PAULUS ELECTED BY THE FIRST SENATE OF THE GERMAN SUPREME COURT. THE WOLFF TERM STARTS AFTER AN APPOINTMENT BY THE FEDERAL PRESIDENT. WOLFF STAYS RELATED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF BAYREUTH AS CHAIR MANAGER.

“It is an honor for me to be able to work in such an institution that is so important and respected for the state. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in Karlsruhe and to the new tasks that await me there “- explained Prof. dr hab. Heinrich Amadeus Wolff after the elections. He added: “But I’m also glad to continue to belong to the University of Bayreuth! Working in Karlsruhe in particular opens up new perspectives that I can bring to the University of Bayreuth ”.

Rector of the University prof. dr hab. Stefan Leible congratulated on behalf of all members of the university and explained: “Professor Wolff will certainly – as time will allow him – will continue to pass his Bayreuth knowledge, and thus, as is customary in our RW faculty, to students the interface between theory and be able to present hands-on experiences first hand. Of course, we regret that we have to share Heinrich Amadeus Wolff with the Federal Constitutional Court in the future. At the same time, we are delighted that Professor Wolff is now a member of the highest German court ”. Leible stressed: “Political selection procedures are always associated with unknowns, but university management was not surprised by the decision. Heinrich Amadeus Wolff has been advising parliaments and governments for decades – committed, balanced and with a lot of wit. He publishes important normative works in the field of public law, has already conducted many lawsuits and has won most of them ”.

Prof. Dr. Heinrich Amadeus Wolff has been the head of the Department of Public Law, Environmental Law, Technology and Information since 2014
at the University of Bayreuth. In addition to teaching, he was and is the author of numerous articles in legal journals,
Collected works, comments and monographs covering the entire scope of public law with a clear emphasis on:
active constitutional law. He was also a legal advisor in numerous socially significant and groundbreaking negotiations
before the Federal Constitutional Court, incl. on data retention, Berlin rent limit, anti-terrorist database
or non-smoking protection. He was also involved as a federal government expert, incl
Supplementary anti-terrorist law required. In the investigative committees of the NSU Bundestag and national parliaments

SHORT CURRICULUM VITAE PROF. DR HEINRICH AMADEUS WOLFF:

Heinrich Amadeus Wolff was born in Heidelberg in 1965. In the years 1985-1991 he studied law at universities
Regensburg, Tübingen, Bonn, Freiburg and Heidelberg and passed the first state legal exam in Heidelberg in 1991, the second after
1994 legal apprenticeship in Stuttgart. This was followed by research work at BVerfG Karlsruhe (Paul Kirchhof) and at the university

law, environmental law, technology and information. In 2017-2019, Wolff was the managing director of the Sustainable Development Research Center
