Cupertino (dpa) – In competition with Android smartphones and Windows computers, Apple focuses on greater efficiency and better interaction between its devices. At the beginning of the WWDC developer conference, the American company announced, among others a new processor for their new Macs.
The next generations of Macbook Air and Macbook Pro laptops, unveiled on Monday, will be the first to receive the new M2 processor. The chip should offer more power than the first Apple M1 chip with the same power consumption. Among other things, the M2 has a quarter more transistors, emphasized Apple manager Johny Srouji. With the M1, Apple turned its back on the processors of the industry giant Intel and moved all its devices from iPhone to Mac to the technological base.
CarPlay has the potential to revolutionize the world of cars
Apple is preparing a potential revolution with its CarPlay software. Until now, it has been used to transfer content from the iPhone to the infotainment screen. The upcoming version should now also offer access to car functions such as climate control, as well as operate the entire instrument cluster, for example via the speed indicator.
He said the first vehicles to use it should be unveiled at the end of next year. Among the producers that Apple says are taking part in the project are, among others Mercedes, Audi and Porsche, as well as Ford, Renault, Nissan and Volvo. Google has been working for years to offer manufacturers an Android version for vehicle features in addition to its CarPlay competitor, Android Auto.
With the Passkeys feature, users of Apple devices should be able to do without passwords. Instead, a cryptographic key is created for biometric login using FaceID or fingerprint recognition. These cryptographic keys can be shared on different Apple devices and, thanks to cooperation with other companies, also on different platforms. The advantage of this procedure is that no passwords are created that are repeated from service to service or that can be intercepted by hackers using phishing emails.
In the iPhone, the new iOS 16 operating system offers, among other things, more options for personalizing the lock screen using the so-called widgets for functions such as viewing the weather forecast. Smartphones with the Google Android operating system have long been able to display widgets on the lock screen. Apple will also provide developers with a live interface that can, for example, show real-time arrival times or game status on the lock screen.
What’s New in Apps
In Apple’s alternative SMS messages, the messages will be corrected and retired temporarily. In the future, you can plan routes with up to 15 stops in the map application. In the future, applications will be able to integrate images from Apple’s “Look Around” street views – which will benefit real estate applications, for example. Apple Watch will also track sleep stages and remind users to take their medications.
With the new “Freeform” application, Apple wants to offer a kind of digital whiteboard where several users can share and edit not only text, but also drawings, photos and videos. Initially, in the US, the group is extending its path to financial business with the option to pay for purchases made through the Apple Pay payment service in four installments without interest.
Apple’s data glasses, which have been speculated about for years, were not presented this time either. Recently, expectations have fueled media information that the group has presented board members with a prototype of a headset that can combine digital content and images from the user environment. At the same time, other software modules that can help Apple with such a device were clearly visible on Monday. This includes improved voice control and text recognition not only in photos but also in videos in the future.
