This is the 25th and final game plan for BLB Ramms. “But that’s not a reason to look back today, but a reason to look forward to the varied and exciting theater season ahead,” says Ramm. When creating the game plan, he wanted to take into account the current social reality without losing entertainment and humor. “The works we have chosen should make our audience enjoy the theater.”
Under the slogan of the season, “City Stories”, BLB will not only tell stories in the theater, but also turn Bruchsal into a stage with a city festival. From 17 to 26 March 2023, stories from the history of Bruchsal and Bruchsal will be at the center of the season. It will include performances, lectures, lectures, city tours and much more. The center of the festival will be the Exil Theater. There, the blue sofa, which has traveled the entire city in search of new team photos, becomes a platform for discussion with Bruchsal’s personalities. The next performances will take place in Sześciogon, in the treppab theater and in other venues in Bruchsal. In addition, “Junge Scene Bruchsal”, BLB’s new play club and Exil Theater, will develop a play on resistance. The Café Europa mornings series will also focus on the history of the city. All these readings will be repeated during the City Stories Festival.
The season will open with “Mr. Puntila and his servant Matti” by Bertolt Brecht on September 22, 2022. A folk performance tells the story of the landowner Puntila: a sober, unscrupulous capitalist – a drunk, philanthropic bon vivant. In addition to his employees, his daughter Eva, and above all, the witty chauffeur Matti, did not protect herself from the unpredictable whims of the arbitrary ruler. Carsten Ramm presents Brecht’s social critique as an intoxicating comedy with live music.
In Teresa Dopler’s award-winning play “The White Village”, the couple who broke up for professional reasons meet again by chance. Gradually, the smooth surface of the two continuously satisfied self-optimizers begins to crack. Petra Jenni stages a funny and sad portrait of two people who sacrifice their feelings on the altar of reason.
In the famous comedy “Fisch zu viert” by Wolfgang Kohlhaase and Rita Zimmer, not only a special meal is served, but also a lot of criminal energy. Fast pace, witty language and dark humor promise an incredibly beautiful evening at the theater. Directed by Arne Retzlaff.
Brecht also plays a role in the second production of Carsten Ramm. Together with other artists, Brecht and Helene Weigel protested 90 years ago against the uprising of the National Socialists in the “Red Revue” in Berlin. The program was titled “We are very pleased” and was a huge success, but only fragments of it have survived. In a political recital of songs, BLB reconstructs the historical cabaret program as best it can and brings back to life an eventful time.
In her movie “Masks” “The French Hitchcock” Claude Chabrol combines thriller and comedy in a media-critical pamphlet against empty promises of happiness from television. Carsten Ramm brings the script to the stage as a sensual theatrical experience.
Heiner Müller’s most played piece “Quartett” is an erotically charged exchange of blows between a man and a woman. Love is shown here as a game for violence and power, it is an image of a society based on domination, exploitation and materialism. Directed by Alexander Schilling.
Arne Retzlaff stages Reineke Fuchs as a rich summer theater. The battles for the power of a clever fox are surprisingly modern. It’s great fun to discover our present in Goethe’s animal world.
BLB also prepared a varied program for a young audience, presented by Arne Retzlaff, director and leader of Junge BLB.
Junge BLB will open the 2022.2023 season on September 23, 2022 “Are you afraid? You asked the mouse. ” Syrian-German writer Rafik Schami and Swiss illustrator Kathrin Schärer have created a poetic picture book about fear. Junge BLB introduces him to the stage in collaboration with the Eppinger Puppet Theater for children from the age of four.
Paul Shipton’s “The Bug” has been one of the absolute hits in children’s and youth theater for years and is a thrilling insect thriller about friendship, hostility, conspiracy and solidarity: forbidden exciting and criminally fun. Directed by Gina Jasmina Wannenwetsch.
After a few shifts caused by the crown, Lisa Sommerfeldt’s theatrical performance “The Girl with a Hat Box” by Petra Jenni will finally premiere on October 13, 2022. It tells the story of the life of a Jewish woman from Bruchsal, Edith Leuchter, who was deported to Gurs at the age of 13 and now lives in the USA. The project was made possible thanks to the support of the Bruchsal Educational Foundation.
As a winter play, Junge BLB is showing the classic children’s book “Meisterdetektiv Kalle Blomquist”. With courage and finesse, Kalle, Eva-Lotta and Anders Juwelen-Dieben managed to stop it. A theater treat for young and old directed by Meike Hedderich.
Jules Verne’s adventure story “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” in the theatrical version by Sophie Reyer also guarantees pure emotions. A breathtaking tour of the world underwater. Directed by Arne Retzlaff.
“Ronja the Robber’s Daughter” will be a summer show for the whole family! Ronja and Birk, the two children of wild robbers, fight not only against gray gnomes and wild druids, but also against gang warfare and parental prejudices. A call to respect for oneself and the world performed by Renat Safiullin.
The program also includes the monologue “Der Verlorene” based on the novel by Hans-Ulrich Treichel, “Love of an Alien” – David Bowie Evening directed by Alexander Schilling – and “Sunbeam in Lettuce” by Holger Schober, a sensitive children’s game about dementia.
As an intermediary between the schools and the theater and as the contact person for the young audience, BLB welcomes its new theater teacher Lisa Becker. After a break caused by the pandemic, the wide theatrical and educational offer can finally be realized again.
After a two-year break, this year the BLB photography exhibition will be held once again in the foyer of Sparkasse Kraichgau in Bruchsal. From June 20 to July 15, new photos of the band will be presented there, telling different stories of the city. The seasonal newspaper with the entire BLB program for 2022.2023 is available to everyone from the opening of the exhibition in the usual exhibition venues and in the theater.
Also this year, the theatrical summer will take place from 8 to 24 July at the Exil Theater. BLB shows Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Rapunzel, or Who Meets Love” as outdoor performances, a contemporary theatrical adaptation of the Grimm fairy tale by Katharina Schlender. The program also includes David Bowie’s “Loving the Alien” and “The Little Witch” by Otfried Preussler. This year’s theater summer is not only an extensive program, but also an expanded audience gallery. There will be approximately 220 seats available in the future.
The annual seasonal morning with which BLB presents its program for 2022.2023 will also take place on July 17 on the open-air stage at the Exil Theater. After a two-year hiatus caused by the crown, the Friends of the Badische Landesbühne can finally re-award the two young band members for outstanding acting achievements. “We’re looking forward to the awards ceremony and looking forward to a varied theater summer in Saalbach,” says Ramm.
