Dell XPS 13 (2 in 1): Notebook series makes a fatal mistake

Computer maker Dell announced its new premium XPS 13 and XPS 13 2-in-1 notebooks on June 13, 2022. In this article, you’ll find out exactly what you can expect from your devices.

The review of the device that Dell released on June 13 looks pink like any other manufacturer, so we’ll cover three sets of topics below:

  • What does the datasheet really say about the new premium notebooks?
  • How does Dell introduce its new device?
  • Own opinion

Data sheet: perfect or outdated?

First, let’s take a look at the device specs based on the datasheets Dell released along with the press release. First of all, it should be said that the prices of the devices have unfortunately not been announced yet, that should be disclosed ahead of the device’s launch (Dell XPS 13: June 16; XPS 13 2-in-1: Summer, 2022). Due to this classified information, it is unfortunately impossible to say in general whether the device is desirable for the price or will be sold slowly.

But let’s really look at the specs. Both devices are equipped with 12th generation Intel Core i51230U or 12th generation Intel Core i7-1250U processors. The clock frequency here is 4.4 GHz with 10 cores or 4.7 GHz with 10 cores. In addition to the processors, 8 GB DDR4 RAM is installed, which can also be replaced with 16 GB DDR4 RAM or 32 GB (only with XPS 13). The graphics of both devices are handled by Intel Iris Xe Graphics, which means no real GPU is used. Moreover, the XPS 13 has three different displays to choose from, while the XPS 13 2-in-1 only has one display, so there’s no choice here. Finally, it should be mentioned that the XPS 13 2-in-1 has a weight of 736 g or a maximum of 881 g, while the weight of the regular Dell XPS 13 starts at 1.17 kg.

What does Dell itself say about its new premium device?

If you look at the device from the point of view of the Dell press release, it says one thing in the first place: we went with the progress and now present the Dell XPS 13. On a closer look, the main emphasis is on the shape of the device, which according to the information has changed drastically, has changed drastically dilution. The devices are even thinner and lighter than their predecessors, making them better suited for transport, and the edges of the display have also shrunk considerably thanks to the frameless “InfinityEdge” display. In addition, the processor is discussed, which should provide a battery life of up to twelve hours while delivering excellent, advanced performance. What distinguishes the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is the ability to use the notebook as a tablet.

However, the whole press release focuses mainly on the detailed displays, the improved and now excellent audio systems and the already mentioned figure of the whole device, so now we ask ourselves: what do these devices really do? To answer that question, we are about to delve into the technical specifications to see if the device is really “advanced” and “perfect”.

So how do you classify the Dell XPS 13?

Unfortunately, due to the lack of information about the price, we are not able to say whether it is a good device in this price range or whether it came out too late and is ahead of the competition by kilometers. But we can say that Dell’s new premium devices don’t really belong to the absolute top-end notebooks. The Dell XPS 13 certainly has a future with 32 GB of RAM and an i7 clocked up to 4.7 GHz. However, if you take into account that the device does not have, for example, an external GPU, you will quickly realize that it is not the most powerful on the market – it may be critical error prove For a price of less than 800 euros, the device is reasonable in my opinion, but anything above would be outdated.

What do you think about my rating, do you share it, do you think, for example, that the devices are worth more than 1000 euros? Let me know in the comments!
