Valora significantly expands its cooperation with Oel-Pool. The food supplier takes over 71 more stores from the gas station operator and converts them into modern avec stores. As a result, Valora not only significantly increases its presence in the convenience industry at gas stations, but by the end of 2023 it will also have the largest chain of convenience stores in Switzerland with around 370 avec stores.

Thanks to intensified cooperation with Oel-Pool, the leading fuel station operator in Switzerland, Valora has reached another milestone in its growth-oriented food strategy. Along with the expansion of the presence of convenience products at gas stations, the share of higher-margin foods in the overall structure of the Valory category is also growing.

The gradual takeover of 71 petrol station stores from Oel-Pool is to take place from April 2023. Shops are located at BP gas stations in western, northwest and eastern Switzerland. They are to be gradually transformed into avec stores with a wide range of convenience products. All locations are secured in the long term.

Already in the summer of 2021, cooperation with the Moveri fuel company, belonging to Oel-Pool, and the acquisition of 39 stores at gas stations operating mainly under the APERTO brand were announced. Most of these stores were transferred to the avec retail chain from January to May 2022. Through expanded cooperation with Oel-Pool, Valora will expand its presence at Swiss gas stations to over 170 stores (including Tamoil locations) by the end of 2023. The foodvenience supplier also expects to achieve sales in the gas station segment of over CHF 300 million per year in the medium term.

Thanks to the cooperation with Oel-Pool and Mover and the continuous conversion of kiosks into avec stores, the entire network of avec points of sale in Switzerland will grow to approximately 370 points of sale by the end of 2023. This makes the avec brand, updated in the summer of 2018, the convenience supplier with the highest number of points of sale in Switzerland.

Shops at gas stations perfectly complement the catering industry

“The extended cooperation with Oel-Pool reassures us that the foodvenience business will remain attractive in the future,” says Michael Mueller, CEO of Valora Group. “In addition to being located in city centers, at transport junctions such as railway stations and airports, and in shopping malls, stores at gas stations fit perfectly into our store portfolio. In addition, the avec brand and the food section of our business will be further strengthened. »

Valora has been in the gas station industry in Switzerland for about 20 years. In addition to Tamoil stores with a strong presence in western Switzerland and the Zurich agglomeration, Valora has also been able to successively expand its portfolio of locations in German-speaking Switzerland. Most customers shop at gas stations without refueling. They come because of the good location, long opening hours and convenience.

The takeover of 71 stores of petrol stations from Oel-Pool requires the approval of the WEKO Competition Commission.
