The famous festival of classical music will be held in the heart of the capital from 7 to 11 July. All information about the program.

30 years of Classic Open Air: with a concert by tenor star José Carreras, the first Classic Open Air Festival began in 1992 at the Gendarmenmarkt and established a tradition. On five July evenings, popular classical and modern melodies resound under the stars, surrounded by the magnificent classical architecture of the concert hall, the French cathedral and the German cathedral. Classic Open Air takes place from Thursday 7 July to Monday 11 July at the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin Mitte.

What can visitors expect?

The Classic Open Air on the Gendarmenmarkt in the heart of Berlin offers unforgettable music evenings every year. Classic Open Air 2022 will start on July 7 with a ceremonial opening gala and a fireworks finale. July 8 and 9 are masterpieces of classical music: “Mediterranean opera hits from Verdi to Bizet” on Friday, “Classic hits – put on light and fire” on Saturday.

On Sunday, Howard Carpendale will perform for the first time live with an orchestra at the Gendarmenmarkt. The charismatic singer presents his greatest hits from “Ti Amo”, “Hello Again”, “Noc when everything sleeps” to “Door to Door with Alice”. The grand finale will take place on July 11. Let it Swing commemorates the great legends of the swing era from Benny Goodman to Frank Sinatra.

How much tickets cost?

Tickets for the inaugural concert and the concerts on Friday and Saturday cost between 58 and 100 euros, depending on the category of seating. The armchairs directly on the stage (gold box) cost 108 euros. Concerts on Sunday and Monday are slightly cheaper in the lower price category (PK 5). You can take part in the Carpendale concert on Sunday from 53 euros, the last concert on Monday from 49 euros.


Where can I get tickets?

Classic Open Air tickets can be purchased through the online provider Ticketmaster and from all known advance booking offices. A connection to the ticket hotline 01806 999 0000 from the ticket provider Ticketmaster costs between 20 and 60 cents per call.

When does it start?

Admission for visitors begins at 6:00 PM on all concert evenings. The concerts start at 19:30. The end of the event is to be around 10.30 pm on five evenings.

How to get to the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin?

Music lovers who want to go to Classic Open Air should use public transport. The square is within walking distance of the Brandenburger Tor S-Bahn station (S1, S2, S25, S26) and the Hausvogteiplatz (U2), Stadtmitte (U2, U6) and Unter den Linden (U5, U6) underground stations. Bus lines 200 and 265 to Jerusalemer Straße station or buses 147 to Franzische Straße will also bring festival goers to their destination.

Parking spaces are limited – for example, in the underground car park Contipark Friedrichstadt-Passagen (Q 205, entrance Taubenstraße 14, 10117 Berlin) and in public car parks around the Gendarmenmarkt.
