MARKETS US / Expected slight change – Tension before Powell | News

NEW YORK (Dow Jones) – Wall Street is expected to move slightly at launch and the stock index futures contract is expected to struggle with slight losses and gains. Participants attribute uncertainty to the impending top central bankers’ summit, where investors will be on the lookout for signals from the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy. Markets continue to wonder to what extent the Fed will fight high inflation by raising interest rates and risking a recession.

This question has been in the spotlight in recent months and will be in the spotlight again during Wednesday’s summit of central bankers in Portugal. US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell will be speaking at the Sintra forum around 3pm CEST along with representatives from the European Central Bank and the Bank of England.

“As always, the markets will analyze every word for clues as to whether the Fed is deviating from its hawkish stance in the face of rising fears of a recession,” said Oanda’s Jeffrey Halley. “You will likely be disappointed, but that should be fine for the daily volatility.”

Bonds wanted again

Bonds extend profits from the previous day. Powell’s comments should determine the further trend.

The euro turned out to be unstable due to inflation data from German countries, but little has changed against the dollar in the balance sheet and according to general German data. Inflation was much lower than expected.

The price of oil is rising slightly. According to OPEC members, the cartel and its associates have by far missed their production targets and are in the weakest position in years to contain high oil prices.
