ASIA MARKETS / Possible easing of US tariffs on China supports equity markets | News

TOKIO / SHANGHAI (Dow Jones) – East Asia and China’s stocks were mostly higher on Tuesday. Investors were counting on US President Joe Biden to announce a easing of tariffs on Chinese goods this week.

In Shanghai, however, this hope was not sustained of all places. The Composite Index withdrew its initial gains and ended the trade, changing little. Even the Caixin Purchasing Managers’ Index for the Chinese services sector, which rose sharply in June and clearly returned to expansion territory, was unable to ease sentiment. As some of the companies surveyed expressed concerns about the long-term consequences of the pandemic on business development and demand. According to trade information, the mood in Shanghai was also shaken by the information that a hacker had stolen the personal data of a billion Chinese people.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index was slightly stronger towards the end of the trade.

The weaker yen compared to the previous day helped the Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo strengthen by 1.0%. In Tokyo, there was a search for technology stocks that had recently been sold out. On the other hand, the shares of the gas supplier Osaka Gas fell 1.9 percent. The company reportedly wrote off over 33 billion yen due to the closure of the Freeport LNG facility.

The approval of the vaccine increases the popularity of SK Bioscience

Seoul Stock Exchange Grew 1.8% Technological resources were also sought here. Shares of Apple’s supplier LG Innotek increased by 7.2 percent. SK Bioscience jumped almost 25 percent after approval of the Covid vaccine in South Korea.

In Sydney, the S & P / ASX-200 index ended 0.25 percent. above after the Reserve Bank of Australia raised interest rates by 50 basis points. The decision was largely expected. The market was dominated by shares in the gold, energy and technology sectors. Regis Resources jumped 11 percent after gold miners released surprisingly high production figures.

In Taiwan, Foxconn grew by 2.5 percent. The electronics and computer parts manufacturer, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, recorded its best second quarter in terms of sales and exceeded its own expectations. In June alone, sales increased by 31 percent compared to the previous year. Foxconn said the outlook for the fiscal year has improved. The leading Taiex index increased by 0.9 percent.
