Solana wants to push mobile crypto transactions
Numerous crypto exchanges offer their clients to trade cyber currencies such as Bitcoin, Ether & Co. via various platforms. In addition to browser registration, providers typically release their own smartphone apps which are designed to allow cryptocurrency fans to trade digital assets on the go. However, in the case of extensive or important transactions, investors often do not use mobile applications, but make transactions on a computer, as explained recently in a blog post by Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana’s blockchain and the cryptocurrency of the same name. . “Mints, deals, auctions and transfers, which are critical to the daily lives of cryptocurrency lovers, are distracting us from our lives with others,” said the developer. “The only companies that have the resources to build the mobile future we all dream of, Apple and Google have not provided updates on their crypto plans.”
Solana Mobile Stack: high compatibility and security on Android phones
Reason enough for Solana Labs to take this task into its own hands. As part of its text contribution, Yakovenko announced the “Solana Mobile Stack” for Android devices, a user interface that users can use to support native Web3 applications. Thanks to the included Seed Vault protocol, transactions should also be signed instantly, and private keys from wallets, apps and the Android operating system can be organized separately. The company promises that with a mobile wallet adapter and integrated payment functions, you can use various services easily and safely. The Solana dApp Store, which provides decentralized Web3 applications for Android devices, also plays a key role here.
The Saga crypto smartphone is equipped with the Solana Mobile Stack
But that’s not all: along with “Saga”, the development studio is launching its own smartphone, which is already equipped with the Solana Mobile Stack. SeedVault also comes pre-installed on a “flagship quality” device and is deeply integrated into the operating system. For Yakovenko, the approach of combining cryptocurrencies with smartphones is only logical. “Nearly 7 billion people use smartphones around the world, and more than 100 million people have digital assets – and both numbers will continue to grow,” said the co-founder in a press release. “Saga sets a new standard for the use of Web3 on mobile devices.”
It’s the toolkit you need to build beautiful, hassle-free mobile experiences on the web3, for the first time on Saga, the company’s flagship device @Solanamobile.

Solana Saga has a 6.67-inch OLED display, 12 gigabytes of RAM and a 512 gigabyte hard drive. The saga also uses QUALCOMM’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 platform, which is now considered top-shelf equipment. According to Solana Labs, the smartphone is expected to cost $ 1,000 with a pre-order of $ 100. Currently, however, developers who are to test Solana Mobile Stack in conjunction with Saga are preferred here. The ordered devices should be delivered in the first quarter of 2023.
High demand for the Saga phone
Speaking recently with Brad Smith and David Hollerith of Yahoo Finance, Yakovenko explained what the cryptosmartphone is all about. “First of all, Solana Mobile Stack is software that allows users to store keys on the phone in such a way that no one can ever steal them,” says the developer. “And then you can pay with any coin, like with any token in a coffee shop. These things are quite important and transformative for a cryptocurrency I think because it’s not a big technology. ” In an interview, Yakovenko praised the smartphone’s hardware: “This device should probably sell for $ 1,300 or $ 1,400. But we want to do something good for our community, “he justified the price of” a top-of-the-range device. ” “.. Already in the first 24 hours after the start of the pre-sale campaign, more than 1,500 devices were ordered. More than 10,000 interested parties were also placed on the waiting list.
Currently, our focus is on Web3 application developers
Even so, the device is not suitable for all types of crypto investors, Yakovenko noted. “Of course, if you are an institutional investor, you need real care with extreme security,” said Solana co-founder. “But if you need something when you’re on the go and just want to pay at a coffee shop, this is perfect.” Currently, the emphasis is also on developers who provide smartphones with applications. “So it’s a device that is a new platform for developers. We currently have one of the fastest-growing developer communities in the world, in probably any technology, ”continued Yakovenko. “So we’re building the device so developers can take advantage of these new features. The theory is that 25,000 active Web3 users and an unlimited app store is a better distribution channel than large app stores. it’s true developers will make great apps. Great apps will attract great users and so on. ”
Pre-orderers will receive the Saga NFT
According to Solana Labs, Solana’s blockchain is not only the fastest blockchain in the world, but also the fastest-growing ecosystem in the world of cryptocurrencies. With millions of active addresses, you can now claim to be the biggest platform for the NFT. For this reason, those who pre-order the saga will also receive the “Saga Pass”. This is an NFT that should be reserved for owners of the first generation of the saga.
The cryptocurrency smartphone from HTC turned out to be a flop
According to the t3n tech portal, Solana’s Saga Phone is not the first mobile crypto project on the market. Already in 2018, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC launched “Exodus”, a mobile phone that works like a hardware wallet and was able to locally manage a blockchain node using a 400 gigabyte micro SD card. Several giants of the crypto industry have backed the project, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Litecoin developer Charlie Lee. Subsequently, the company also released a cheaper basic variant and a special edition, which was carried out in cooperation with the Binance cryptocurrency exchange. However, according to t3n, “Kryptofon” has failed.
