Just nine months after construction starts, the new Siemens Technology Center is celebrating a topping out on the research campus of the university city of Garching near Munich. The new building, which was digitally planned and built according to high sustainability criteria, has thus reached an important milestone in Siemens’ future research in Munich. Thanks to modern means of work, it will offer space for inspiration and new ideas as a center of innovation. More than 450 scientists from Siemens Technology will work here on the technologies of the future together with around 150 employees and students from the Technical University of Munich.

Munich has been the central research location of Siemens Technology in Germany for almost 50 years. Research at Siemens is focusing on important future topics for digitization. The Siemens Technology Center offers approximately 13,000 m² of modern and highly variable usable space on four floors with two internal courtyards. Current research projects can be presented to the public in the foyer. In addition to a flexibly divided lecture hall, technical areas such as laboratories, a conference area, training and conference rooms as well as modern workplaces are created. This is due to the photovoltaic systems on the roof, thermally activated intermediate ceilings supporting heating and cooling systems, the provision of regenerative energy using geothermal energy, highly efficient ventilation with heat recovery, and the latest sensor and building technology from Siemens. In addition, the new Technology Center, which already used 8,500 cubic meters of concrete and approximately 1,200 tonnes of steel, will be equipped with a comprehensive W-Lan and 5G cellular network and the latest media technology.

Siemens invests in the first phase of construction, the celebration of which consists of a topping out, in the middle of double-digit millions. Completion is scheduled for 2023. The next construction phase is currently planned.
