Donauwörth: Offer for the Schwäbischschwert Children’s Day in Donauwörth

On July 21, Schwäbisch Schwerder Children’s Day begins in Donauwörth. After a six-year break, there is a lot of catching up to do. The program is extensive.

Finally, the day that has taken weeks to prepare at the Donauwörth schools and the tailor’s shop is approaching: in Donauwörth, the Children’s Day will be held in Schwäbisch Schwerder from Thursday 21 July to Sunday 24 July.

This traditional Donauwörther children’s festival has been deeply rooted in the city’s history for centuries and aims to bring the ‘history of practicality’ to young and old in its present form. It begins with the name: Children’s Day at Schwäbisch Schwerder reminds us of a time when the old free imperial city on the Danube was still called “Schwäbisschwerd”.

After a six-year break, a long weekend will be celebrated in which, according to the town hall, children and adults should make it. From market life to historical games, from the colorful game festival to the stage program to the camp life on Heilig-Kreuz-Wiese, there is a lot to offer. The atmosphere in the middle of the historic old town provides a unique setting.

A fire show, camp life and the famous history game

It starts on Thursday at 16:30 with the beer barrel of Mayor Jürgen Sorré, and on Friday from 16:00 with an open market and camp life in the Bavarian beer garden. From 18:00 there will be a cordial evening under the direction of the team from the city of Donauwörth under the slogan “But it’s nice!” instead. On Saturday at 1 p.m. we continue the festival of colorful games for children and the whole family. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., various youth teams will present their skills. Schools and many Donauwörth clubs, groups and institutions are also involved and they all came up with playgrounds for children. On Saturday evening, visitors can look forward to a great music program, and at 22.00 a show with fiery artists.

For 47 years, almost 1,000 children in historical costumes have played the past of their hometown as a living present. A colorful parade through the historic old town of Donauwörth follows the great historic show in Heilig-Kreuz-Garten on Sunday. From the founding of the city to the Biedermeier period, it offers everything that has come over the centuries to the commercial, transport and cultural center on the bridge in terms of splendor and glory, weight and burden or joy and sorrow: fishermen and knights, emperors and patricians, popes and religious , citizens, court ladies … all cheerful, harmonious and historic!

The author Christoph Biemann took patronage over it: Who knows the “show with the mouse”, knows it too: Biemann has been presenting the show since 1982 in his characteristic sign, a green sweater. He is also one of the experts on the “Ask a Mouse” game show. (UNTIL)
