Hamburg demands an extension of trial breaks

Hamburg is campaigning in the federal government to extend recess deadlines for the corona lawsuits. Otherwise, the trials in the Hanseatic city would risk bursting, said Justice Senator Anna Gallina (the Greens) of the German Press Agency. It may also have an impact on the proceedings in which the accused is in custody. “Corona continues to threaten the conduct of major criminal trials,” said the senator. “The Federal Minister of Justice must therefore reintroduce the expired exemption rule.”

Under the Code of Criminal Procedure, the pending main hearing must restart if the time limit is exceeded. Due to the crown-related breaks, an emergency ordinance was created in 2020 that allows major hearings to be suspended for a maximum of three months and ten days if they cannot be held due to infection control measures. The new federal minister of justice, Marco Buschmann (FDP), extended the dismissal, originally due to expire in March, to 30 June.

MV: Corona care increases at a low level

The summer corona wave is also felt in care facilities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – although at a low level for the time being. According to the latest report of the State Office of Health and Social Affairs this week, there were 18 active cases of infection and 126 cases in the facilities. The week before, there were seven events and 48 cases. We need to see if the numbers continue to grow, said the spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Alexander Kujat. Elsewhere in Germany, quite rapid growth occurs at times. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recently reported, among others, an increase in epidemics in retirement homes and nursing homes. Greifswald’s bioinformatics scientist Lars Kaderali also pointed out that although the seven-day incidence remains stable, infections are increasingly being transmitted to older population groups. According to Kujat, from the end of August, and from the beginning of September at the latest, more and more mobile vaccination teams will once again travel to care facilities. In addition, the requirements for tests and masks have never been eliminated here. And vaccinations have paid off.

The RKI reports 140,999 new infections – the incidence drops to 740.1

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a nationwide seven-day Wednesday morning incidence at 740.1. This can be seen from the RKI dashboard numbers. The day before, the value of new infections per 100 thousand. inhabitants per week was 744.2 (previous week 691.8; previous month 416.0). Health authorities in Germany recently reported 140,999 new corona infections (previous week: 127,611) and 136 deaths (previous week: 104) to the RKI in one day to the RKI.

Note on actual numbers: The incidence values do not give the full picture of the infection situation. Experts have assumed for some time that there will be a large number of cases unrecorded by the RKI – mainly because not all infected people have had a PCR test done so far. Only positive PCR tests are included in official statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems may lead to distortion of individual daily values.

World Medical President Montgomery calls for the possibility of future blockades

The chairman of the World Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, called on politicians to re-allow the closure under a future infection protection law. “Anyone who categorically excludes measures such as contact restrictions or blocking from the outset did not understand the importance of the law or the gravity of the situation,” Montgomery told the Funke media group’s newspapers. “Whether or not you use the instruments later depends on your proper judgment. But there’s no doubt you need them. “The law of infection control should open up opportunities and save lives,” Montgomery said. “It must therefore include a toolkit that politicians can use when the situation calls for it.”

Seven-day incidence in Schleswig-Holstein at 614.2

The seven-day incidence of new corona infections in Schleswig-Holstein has decreased compared to the previous week. According to the state registration office, the number of new infections registered per 100,000 inhabitants over seven days is 614.2. A week earlier, the incidence was 685.4. According to the information, 3,889 new cases of coronavirus were reported (5,277 in the previous week). 469 people have been treated in hospitals due to the coronavirus (previous week: 506). There are 29 patients with a crown in intensive care units; 14 of them are ventilated.
