Munich: concert program at Brunnenhof – Munich

There are things that just don’t depreciate. Such is the evergreen fountain courtyard in the south wing of the residence. We owe it to Prince Albrecht V, who had it built almost half a millennium ago. It used to be used in tournaments and as a driveway for a carriage, but today this gem is primarily known for its excellent acoustics. For example, at the Brunnenhof Open Airs, where you not only see and hear your loved ones again, but also discover completely new horizons.

Already the first week of August has something of everything on the agenda. On Tuesday Jazz rush big band with their acclaimed mix of techno and big band jazz. The new album “téchne” shows the artistic interaction of cultural and humanistic themes. The title refers to the ancient Greek “τέχνη”, which is still important today for understanding art, science and technology. Young musicians express the awareness of the smooth transitions of these levels, using mathematical, philosophical and literary threads in terms of composition and text, tonally through a combination of jazz, classics and techno. The next day, comedian Chris Boettcher, known as the creator of Wiesn’s hit “10 Meter geh”, is tackling a few levels less before the band “Austria Project” on Saturday revive the Austro-Pop era as he did. for 20 years of beauty. On the playlist: top hits such as “Großvater”, “Fürstenfeld”, “Schifoan” and “Herz wia a Bergwerk” – who can say no?

From carpentry to diatonic practices

Under no circumstances should you watch the guest performances Herbert Pixner project miss. In his 40s from South Tyrol, who grew up with five siblings on a mountain farm in a side valley of the Passeier Valley, he has had a long and fascinating journey. After his carpentry apprenticeship, he became more and more drawn to folk music with diatonics and countless other instruments, spent 15 years as a milkman in South Tyrol or Switzerland, and even worked as a bar for several months. a musician at the elegant ski resort of Vail, Colorado – a path many alpine people have walked before him, but mostly with a pair of skis in their luggage.

Pixner remained a seeker, he played in various genres, from folk music, through jazz, to classical and contemporary music, he recorded with Ostbahn-Kurti, but also with André Heller – who can do such balancing without accident? In 2005, together with Heidi Pixner (harp), Manuel Randi (guitar) and Werner Unterlercher (bass), he founded a project named after him, which soon won the first awards: an award for young artists from the Hanns Seidel Foundation. Since 2019, he has been living and working in Gnadenwald near Innsbruck, in his studio “Gnadenlos”, where he also released a new album: “Schian”, which in the South Tyrolean dialect means beautiful. “A cross-section of 17 years of the Herbert Pixner project” – says the artist – “clear sounds, a rather calm album, twelve new songs”. Guitarist Randi describes the genesis as follows: “The melodies are swinging in the air, Herbert catches them, takes us with him, then we fly on this magic carpet and the music unfolds by itself.”

A large part of the further Brunnenhof program is self-explanatory: August 9 Michael Jackson – or rather, “The Tribute Show” with the best titans of pop, which should take several hours. The next day, Willy Astor & Friends can be seen on the Sound of Islands tour, which, almost like their colleague Pixner, crosses musical styles, from bossa nova to tango, African influences, flamenco and Bavarian folk music. On August 12 he goes to Brenner, for “Italo Pop Night” with “I dolci signori”, six sweet boys and teardroppers from Zucchero, Umberto Tozzi, Al Bano, Ricchi e Poveri and Eros Ramazotti – for fans or only that means felicita: happiness. The next covers are “Pink Floyd performed by Echoes” (August 13), “The spirit of Falco” (August 18), “The Queen Tribute Show” (August 19), “Abba-Night” (August 20). “Summer Night of Film Music”, performed live by a symphony orchestra, rises on August 14, before becoming a classic in three evenings: “Carmina Burana”, “Tenors Night” and “Four Seasons” by Vivaldi. “La notte italiana” with the most beautiful Italian opera arias – another evergreen one that simply does not want to lose its value – will surely be an atmospheric ending on August 21.
