Chelsea FC even surpassed FC Barcelona in terms of spending on transfers. And now he is interested in, among other things, the former BVB forward.
It can go that fast. Chelsea FC was still the subject of sharp mockery earlier this week.
“We’ve delivered approximately 852,609 pizzas since Chelsea’s last successful transfer announcement,” Domino tweeted the fast food chain, referring to Londoners’ unsuccessful attempts to win new top stars.
In the transfer competition with FC Barcelona, Chelsea lost to both Raphiha and Jules Kounde. Coach Thomas Tuchel did not seem to make any progress in creating the squad for the new season.
Chelsea makes a record transfer
But shortly before the first Premier League game against Everton (Saturday 18:20 live on Sky Sport Premier League) the situation is completely different. Chelsea not only announced a successful transfer on Friday with the acquisition of left-back Marc Cucurella from Brighton Hove & Albion.
The Blues also made the Spaniard the most expensive left-back in the world with a transfer fee of € 65.3 million (no bonuses).
In fact, Cucurella was the dream footballer of city coach Pep Guardiola. But Chelsea outbid ManCity in the last few meters in transfer poker.
1st place in the transfer ranking
If the blues started slowly in the transfer market, the Chelsea Buyer is really going on.
Until the sale of Roman Abramovich’s club to Todd Boehly’s investor group was dry, Chelsea’s hands were tied.

But now the money is flowing. And how! Chelsea has now taken the lead in the international purchasing ranking – ahead of FC Barcelona.
EUR 100 million for Fofana?
Chelsea has already spent € 186.5 million on debutants. Before Cucurella they were ahead of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City (56.2 m), Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli (38 m), Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa (18 m) and Gabriel Slonina from Chicago Fire (9 m).
Barca currently has € 153 million in transfer spending. The Tuchel shopping frenzy isn’t over yet. The blues is just beginning.
Down sky Chelsea are also working to get Leicester City center-back Wesley Fofana. The Blues have already made several offers for defensive talent, the latest of which is expected to cost € 83 million.
But Leicester is asking for € 100 million – a hefty sum for the 21-year-old with 35 Premier League games.
Tuchel is not against Aubameyang
Apparently, The Blues also expressed interest in Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.
And in the wake of the storm, Tuchel can envision Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the new buyer he has known from his time as a BVB coach.
“He has always been an important player and we had a good relationship with each other,” said Tuchel. The signing of Gabon would be all the more sensible as Tuchel does not attach much importance to Timo Werner’s services.
Aubameyang moved to the second link in Barcelona after the arrival of Robert Lewandowski. However, the Catalans are reluctant to give up the former Dortmund player but want to keep him as a reserve for Lewy. Instead, Memphis Depay is to leave Barca.
If Aubameyang is indeed unsoldable, Chelsea will likely find another transfer target now that the money is flowing.
