Premiere of the parish festival
pastures. St. Francis celebrates the first feast of the newly reunited parish on August 13 and 14. Celebrations are held in the square at Heilig-Geist-Kirche, where parish festivals have been held every year for decades. The festival starts on August 13 at 17:30, and on Sunday at At 10:00 there will be a festival mass in Heilig-Geist-Kirche.

Morning with a view of the cathedral

From 11:00 am, members of the Authors’ Forum will present fragments of novels, short stories and poetry, ranging from cheerful to exciting, to Cologne. Michael Romes offers musical cutscenes. From 2 p.m. in the same place, three jazz combos directed by Michael Romes invite you for a musical walk. Entry is free.
Sing in the white lilac
Downtown. Some songs are so bad that they are beautiful again, or so beautiful that they are unbearable: on August 14 at 6 p.m. there will be a concert with singing in Weißen Holunder (Gladbacher Strasse 48).

Felix Hauptmann’s concert
Downtown. The winner of the Horst and Gretl Will scholarship for jazz and improvised music Felix Hauptmann performs as part of the Cologne Jazz Week. On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, it will perform at 20:00 in Stadtgarten at Venloer Straße 40. The Jazzweek will run until August 20. Further information: jazzweek.de

Seniors’ trip to Hürth
Ostheim. SeniorenNetzwerk Ostheim offers a bus trip to Brühl. We will visit the gardens and palace of Augustusburg on August 17. The chain rented a bus for the trip, which, thanks to a lift, can also take people in wheelchairs. The journey begins at 1pm in the market square in Vingst, after which passengers are invited to the Servatius church in Ostheim, the Detmolder Straße in Merheim and finally to the Trinitatis church in Neubrück. Return around 18:00 The fee is 20 euros. People receiving basic insurance, KölnPass holders and receiving Housing Benefit pay a significantly reduced contribution. Participants must submit a negative corona discharge test or be vaccinated or recovered. The use of FFP2 masks is mandatory. Registration under the number 0221/22 28 780.
Friday, August 19
Veedel celebrates its 1100th birthday
Longerich. St. Dionysius has initiated a festival weekend around the Veedel anniversary and celebrates its 1,100th anniversary with multiple collaborative partners. The festival weekend will start on August 19 in the evening and with the final fireworks show. This evening, a new commemorative publication on the history of the church and Veedel will also be presented, and an exhibition at the church and rectory will open. Around the Kriegerplatz in Alt-Longerich, on August 20 from 10:00 to 22:00, there will be a large stage program, mainly designed by Longerich bands and clubs. Heilig Geist Hospital (Graseggerstraße 105) is also part of the festival weekend. It will be attending on August 20 on the open day from 10:00 to 17:00. The little Voltaire train will run back and forth from Alt-Longerich to the hospital to link the two locations. The festival weekend will end on August 21 at 10.00 with a festival service with the participation of Auxiliary Bishop Rolf Steinhäuser with ecumenical participation and musical accompaniment. The festival weekend ends with another morning beer in St. Dionysius.

Old books for a good cause
Cologne. Book Exchange Cologne mi. V. invites you to the flea market of the same name on August 20 and 21, 2022, which will be held from 10:00 to 18:00 in the building at Claudiusstraße 1 on the Südstadt campus in TH Köln. Visitors can buy works from a collection of up to 30,000 books and CDs of all genres, and take advantage of the accompanying literary, musical and gastronomic program.
The Book Exchange in Cologne was originally founded by students of the TH in Cologne and to this day donates all revenues to the construction of schools in regions with disadvantaged educational and upbringing conditions. Participation is free. One
Registration is not necessary.
Exhibition in the district town hall

The “Abendstimmung” is the name of the Kölner-Maler-Kreis eV art exhibition at the town hall (Neusser Straße 450), which can be seen there until 13 September. 13 artists from the painting circle present the subject in a wide range: a romantic sunset in places of this world, a full moon that mysteriously paints the sea in color, or a dream with emotional symbolism.

Meeting of cyclists in Porz
porcelain The Verkehr Porz working group of ADFC Cologne meets on August 25 at 19.00 in the Klanggarten meeting district in Porz-Urbach (Bachstr. 2). Topics related to bicycles in the Porz district will be discussed. We invite all kinds of participants.
Monday, September 5
Put it back on the bicycle seat
trinkets. The city of Cologne offers free cycling training for seniors in Cologne over the age of 65. The offer is part of the health and safety works. Many seniors would like to cycle “properly” again, but feel a bit insecure about this mode of transport. Weekly training takes place on weekdays in two groups of 15 people. The first week of training starts on September 5th and the second weekday on September 12th, 15:30 to 17:30 daily at the youth traffic school in Cologne-Nippes (Neusser Straße 164, opposite the Shell gas station). Both courses are conducted under the supervision of a certified cycling instructor. Please bring your own bike.
