“It’s 1996 …” – Each of them has had at least one catchy Fettes Brot melody in their lives. Now the Hamburg rap trio is separating 30 years after its founding.
Mighty, Tobi Tobsen (today: Moonbootica), König Boris, Schiffmeister, Dokter Renz – these 5 names were founded in 1992 by the Fettes Brot band. However, after a short time only the last three remained, so Boris Lauterbach, Björn Warns and Martin Vandreier released their first EP “Mitschnacker” as a trio.
With Platt’s anthem “Nordisch by Nature” and the accompanying album “Auf ein Auge blöd”, they drew attention to the whole country for the first time, and the first great success on the charts came in 1996 with the single “Jein”. With the album “Fettes Brot Lets grüßen” they entered the world of pop in 1998 and made it clear that from then on Fettes Brot could no longer be assigned to any genre.
And it should remain so until today. “On such days”, “Emanuela”, “Gay girls”, “Bettina”, “Von der Liebe” – the list of (radio) hits of Fettes Brot can be continued endlessly and lives from the fact that the trio has ended the years became more and more oriented towards pop, but ultimately never lost their hip-hop benchmarks, and as a result – still a great danger in rap – never lost the respect of his fans.
In May 2019, the last album “LOVESTORY” was released. Now the story has been told as Fettes Brot announced on its website.
Our little combo from the Hamburg nursery will have almost 30 this year. We have never celebrated anniversaries. And hold out three times as long as the Beatles are not an art to us. Before we can soon inaugurate our own wax figures at Madame T, we “nearly 50” teens prefer to dig our own grave. You read right: Group Fettes Brot is not only ancient … but a HISTORY! Papa, Papa and Papa break up. At the end of ’23, we pack our gym bags and start hiking new paths.
As long as “music” was our common number 1, years passed. As children of the 1980s, Run DMC was always as dear to us as the doctors, De La Soul rocked our boat as hard as the Rio Reiser. When we started out, hardly anyone rapped in their native language, except Advanced Chemistry and Fanta 4. We sat comfortably between their chairs and abandoned some evergreens over the years, such as “Jein”, “Emanuela” and “An Days Like These”. …
It seems that in 2022 our shared story was somehow told. It is a point of honor that our era must end with a bangs end. Since bread doesn’t cry (long), imagine one of those lavish funerals in New Orleans where every 10 minutes it cries, and then every 10 hours a laughing locomotive of people and music blows through the city streets!
We invite you to the crazy final festival. Coming soon: farewell song “Brot weint nicht”, farewell tour, greatest hits CD and many surprises from our everlasting wish list! The Fettes Brot Museum will of course remain open forever. We want you to always be our fans. If you don’t want to miss it, visit from 09/02. our team shop at www.fettesbrotshop.de
I’ll see you again.
Goodbye hardcore, FB
A farewell song is “Bread not cry”.
Of course, before the final end, the career of the Fantastic Three will be celebrated again on a farewell tour, with all the hits of course.
