It is waiting for you at Lollapalooza 2022 in Berlin

This weekend, from September 24 to 25, the “Lollapalooza” festival will be held again at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin Westend after a two-year break with Corona. This year, the five stages of the music festival will be hosted mainly by local artists.

Among others, the bands Seeed, the Fantastischen Vier, Kraftklub and AnnenMayKantereit and rapper Casper, Berlin DJs Alle Farben and Fritz Kalkbrenner, Berlin rapper Badmomzjaya and singer Paula Hartmann. American musician Machine Gun Kelly and DJ Tiesto are the only important artists in the world.

According to project manager Jan Posth, the fact that the festival focuses on the local has to do with two things this time: On the one hand, after the crown pandemic, which also included the German and Berlin music scenes. idle, the local music scene needed the support of artists.

On the other hand, it has to do with the late date of the event. So far, Lollapalooza has always been held on the first weekend of September. This date was due to a shift in match schedules due to the World Cup but not available this year. “We hit the road, not festival time,” he says, “so many artists just don’t have time to play at the festival.

Posth refuses to accept the accusation that the squad is again insufficiently feminine – among the six big headliners there is not a single woman or person read as a woman. “We have put in a great effort to organize the festival on an equal footing,” he says. “47 percent of the roster is women.” There is even an entire scene just for FLINT * (women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and genders), Weingarten scene.

Moreover, the team behind the event is very feminine. “We have an event director and a woman as security chief. Both positions are mostly male dominated, ”says Posth.

In addition to the FLINTA * stage, new this year is also that Lollapalooza is the first German festival to operate under the “Din Iso 20121” sustainability certification, according to Posth. The internationally recognized certification is designed to create a standardized, sustainable approach to events around the world. The festival’s sustainability efforts are also independently audited.

After several relocations in Berlin, Lollapalooza has been taking place since 2018 in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Following residents’ complaints about noise, the music volume was lowered to 76 decibels in 2019. This volume should remain unchanged this year.

In addition to music on the big stages, Lollapalooza will again have a diverse program with experience worlds such as Green Kiez, Fashionpalooza and Kidzapalooza, as well as the Lolla Fun Fair with the Ferris wheel as the symbol of the festival.

Lollapalooza was founded in 1991 by founder Perry Farrell as a traveling festival. The concept brought together artists from different musical genres. It was the first American festival to span multiple festival days, used more than one stage, balanced its carbon footprint, and created a family-friendly program. It is currently headquartered in the United States of Chicago, and in countries such as Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France and Sweden.
